Introducing SkyVM

Today, Dioxus Labs is announcing SkyVM: a platform for developers to quickly spawn AI-powered virtual machines at scale.

The future of software is evolving rapidly. AI agents now have the capability to autonomously develop massive applications, working independently for hours to days at a time. We believe that virtual machines will be the substrate on which the next generation of software is shipped.

To that end, SkyVM provides instant boot, instant snapshot, instant rollback full desktop virtual machines. Developers can spawn new VMs from GitHub, MCP, API - and share them with a simple URL. Our advanced computer-use tools give agents full control over every surface. The computer is alive.

We built the hardware and the platform. You build the future.

The Problem

We initially built SkyVM to assist in the development of our Rust app framework, Dioxus. Dioxus apps run everywhere - Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS, Android, Web. If you've built native apps, you know that some tests are near impossible to write.

Until now, our team has either jumped between several different development machines or used local virtual machines. Multiple machines can be frustrating to manage and local VMs are slow to boot and difficult to share.

Bug reproduction and pull-request review cost valuable time. In 2025, the Dioxus team closed nearly 700 pull requests. In a world of fast-paced agentic development, we simply cannot afford to wait for local builds or painstakingly replicate bugs manually.

The Solution

We built SkyVM to solve the problems we faced every day.

Our team can now quickly boot into prebuilt dev environments customized with our favorite tools like VSCode, Rust, Homebrew, etc. Because SkyVM machines boot from memory snapshots, they launch instantly.

SkyVM machines run in the cloud, so we can launch several at once, each with a different operating system and toolset. Our UI makes it easy to jump between running machines and monitor their progress.

Every snapshot is given a unique URL, making it easy to share bug reproductions, feature previews, or jump into curated test environments. SkyVM supports checkpoint and restore, enabling dynamic rollback of machine state.

With the release of Opus 4.5, our team has been massively enhanced with AI coding tools. Each SkyVM machine comes integrated with a customizable AI Agent. You can give the agent a task, feed it custom context, and it'll work valiantly in the background.

Unlike other platforms, SkyVM machines can be real desktop virtual machines. This means you can build native macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, and Android apps, entirely in the cloud. The Dioxus team has used SkyVM to autonomously build incredible new features like LiveActivity integration and a custom Blitz UIKit Renderer.

In addition to the built-in AI agent, each SkyVM machine comes installed with custom guest tools. They expose functionality like low-latency desktop streaming, unified API for UI automation, and first-class integration with AI coding harnesses like Claude Code and Codex.

The team behind SkyVM has decades of experience in deploying data center hardware and deploying virtualization technologies. Each VM is isolated to a private network with direct SSH access and integrated tunnel support. SkyVM machines are secure and blazingly fast.

What's Next

We're currently in private beta and working closely with early users to refine the user experience. Because SkyVM is backed by purpose-built data center hardware, we are keen to work with customers as we scale our infrastructure.

Coding is entering a new era. We believe that virtual machines are the substrate on which the next generation of software is built. SkyVM is just the beginning.
